Why not take a boat trip from the pretty naval town of Dartmouth to Medieval Totnes, a train ride from Totnes to Buckfastleigh and then a visit to Buckfast Abbey before returning to Dartmouth.
The picturesque fishing port of Brixham lies quietly serving as England’s major fishing port for 300 years. A fine full-size replica of the Golden Hinde takes its place.

Dartington Food Fair - 26th & 27th May 2013
Experience a great family fun day out on the famous Dartington Hall Estate located a mile from Totnes in the beautiful South Hams area of Devon. The festivities include demonstrations from top regional chefs cooking up a storm in the demonstration kitchen. Also back for 2013 is the Devon Cider Bar. Hands on fun for all to enjoy, young and old, live music to listen to, and the ever popular Food & Drink pavillion with over 50 local producers from Devon & the West Country. Located only 16 minutes away from Newhouse Barton Cottages - you wouldn't want to miss it.
Totnes & District Agricultural Show - 28th July 2013
Totnes show is over 90 years old and is one of the biggest one day shows in the country. Every year the show attracts thousands of visitors, young and old and there is something for all of them. There will be exciting demonstrations, displays and parades aswell as a home & handicrafts marquee, craft tent, Food Hall and trade stands offering a wide choice of goods and services. This is another event for the whole family that you won't want to miss.
Dartmouth Royal Regatta - 29th - 31st August 2013
The pretty medieval town of Dartmouth has a stong maritime history and is host to the very popular Dartmouth Regatta. Whether you're there to compete or sit back and watch the fun while sipping a pimms, there's lots for the whole family to see and do during the Regatta week. A combination of serious competition sailing and fun on the water, there are also rowing events, exhibitions, the illuminated river procession, a fete & funfair, and even air displays by the legendary Red Arrows. This is a fantastic experience for the whole family - you surely wouldn't want to miss it!
Abbfest - 20th - 22nd September 2013
Abbfest has become a tradition for many, marking the end of the summer with a fun packed weekend celebration of all that's great about Devon. Taking place at Fermoys Garden Centre in Ipplepen only 5 minutes from Newhouse Barton Cottages, this very popular event draws in over 6000 visitors. It features almost every beer and cider in Devon (that's over 130!) and showcases over 60 local food & craft producers, giving visitors the chance to try a wide range of delicious local fayre from sausages to shellfish and pate to porkpies. There will be cookery demonstrations from top chefs including the joint winner of Masterchef: the professionals 2012 - Anton Piotrowski from the Treby Arms, sparkwell, Devon. There will also be plenty of live music to listen to throughout the weekend and a brilliant childrens play area making this a fun filled event for all the family.
